In an attempt to encourage young people to take their education seriously and make learning fashionable, popular and appealing, award-winning gospel star Takie Ndou has led by example by returning to school.
Ndou, who has scooped Crown Gospel Music Awards in 2021, 2023 and 2025, as well as a SAMA for best contemporary gospel album, has taken a giant leap by registering this year for a law (LLB) degree at one of the country’s universities.
The Glory, Unetulusa Muya Wanga, Miracle, Imvula Iyeta and You Never Fail hitmaker, who is also a motivational speaker, said it has always been his wish to further his studies. “It is true. I am back furthering my education. I love education and I have always wanted to do law. My love for education goes beyond going back to class. I have a project where I motivate Grade 12 learners at different schools. It has made such huge impact and led to the improvement of results at schools,” said Ndou.
Ndou said his return to school is also aimed at empowering himself academically for the future, as the music industry is unpredictable.
“The music industry is not stable, today you are up there shining as a star and the next month you are forgotten. I know I am a star, but I have to be prepared for the future and education is the only weapon to do that. But all in all, I am really interested in a career in law, which I hope to complete in record time and serve my community,” said Ndou.
Ndou’s music career started in 2004 after he left a well-paying IT job, following his calling after his father’s passing. He has since released successful albums such as Psalms of Hope and Hope Arise. He is a renowned gospel musician, songwriter, producer and worship leader, and has gained international recognition. Ndou has won multiple awards, including the Ingoma Awards and SABC Crown Gospel Awards, and is also a member of the popular Spirit of Praise collective.
