There is a new broom at Vhembe FM, promising to sweep clean and take the radio station to greater heights.

Ms Mulaifa Bulala, the 30-year-old former advertising scheduler and producer at the station, who hails from Manamani, has taken over the helm following the departure of former Vhembe FM station manager, Mr Mukhethwa Ravhuhali, who left the station a few months ago.

Bulala assumed her managerial position on 7 October last year. She has been part of Vhembe FM since October 2024.

Holding a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies, with honours in Tshivenda, Bulala is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Venda. She says she is driven by impactful storytelling and community engagement through radio and is confident that she will steer the ship to its intended destination.

“Under my leadership, Vhembe FM is amplifying local voices and stories, blending our Tshivenda language heritage with cutting-edge media. The station’s focus is on community-driven content, impactful events, and strengthening connections across Limpopo and beyond. To be entrusted with such a huge responsibility and the confidence shown in me by management and the directors is humbling. It means a lot to me. I am committed to meeting their expectations and carrying out my mandate with dignity,” said Bulala.

Bulala’s plans for the station include delivering fresh news to listeners on a daily basis, uplifting and empowering young, up-and-coming musicians, while also promoting Tshivenda music.

Although she concedes that this is her first job after completing her studies, she says everything is falling into place step by step.

“My workplace has become like my second home, where we work as one family. We have a very healthy relationship — we keep it real, supportive and fun, and we are open to ideas, with the aim of taking the station to the next level,” she said.
