KC Mathoma receives nomination as possible ANC PEC member

Tension is building within ANC structures in Limpopo as the province’s elective conference draws closer, during which new leadership will be elected. One of the latest “hats” to be thrown into the circle is that of Khuthalani Curtis (KC) Mathoma, who has been nominated to serve on the ANC Limpopo Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).

Mathoma is a young but experienced politician. He currently serves as head of office for the mayor of the Makhado Municipality. He hails from Tshivhadzwaulu and holds several degrees, including an MBA from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Bachelor of Science in Mining and Environmental Geology (honours) from the University of Venda.

The ANC’s provincial conference is expected to be held from 27 to 29 March 2026 to elect the new provincial leadership. The term of the current provincial leadership is due to lapse in June 2026, shortly before the local government elections.

Tensions within ANC structures in Vhembe and across Limpopo have escalated in the lead‑up to the provincial conference, with factions working to secure the election of their preferred candidates. The current ANC provincial chairperson, Stan Mathabatha — who also serves as Deputy Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development — voluntarily stepped aside from his role in September 2025, citing concerns about how regional conferences were run, particularly in the Vhembe and Waterberg regions.

The strongest contenders for the position of Limpopo chairperson are likely to be Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba and John Mpe, the executive mayor of the Polokwane Municipality. Both leaders are widely reported to be vying for the top post.

Mathoma has publicly expressed his support for Reuben (Vhamusanda Vho Reuben) Madadzhe as ANC provincial secretary for a second term. Reuben Madadzhe is the current provincial secretary of the ANC in Limpopo and a traditional leader from the Vhembe District, a role he has held since June 2022. He is seen as an influential figure in the provincial succession race, enjoying support from several regions.

Mathoma has also expressed his support for Premier Ramathuba’s leadership bid ahead of the provincial conference, aligning himself with delegates backing her candidacy.
