VFC add another player to boost the team’s striking force

To show their determination for promotion to the Betway Premiership League this season, Venda Football Club (VFC) have bolstered their attacking options by signing experienced striker Stevens Goovadia.

According to the club’s media and marketing manager, Nelo Ntshudisane, the deal, which will see Goovadia don Maunavhathu colours until the end of the current season, was finalised last week. The former Baroka FC left winger resumed training with the team on Monday.

Ntshudisane said the team’s technical staff were confident that the 25-year-old Goovadia would help solve VFC’s goal drought. The club has scored and conceded 10 goals in the 14 games played so far.

Goovadia is the second prolific striker to join VFC in two weeks. The Thohoyandou side also recalled Malawian striker Adepoju Babatunde, who initially joined VFC in January 2023 on a 42-month contract but spent only six months at the club before moving to Big Bullets FC on loan.

Ntshudisane added that the combination of Babatunde and Goovadia is expected to trouble opposition defenders when VFC host Upington City at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday. Before these new acquisitions, the club had relied on Deolin Mekoa and Matimu Tshabalala for goals.

In addition to the new signings, VFC have strengthened their squad by promoting young midfielder Mudodzwa Ndou from the club’s development ranks. Ntshudisane also confirmed the departure of Chris Matombo, who has joined Thohoyandou rivals Black Leopards FC
